Canva's reel maker or SuperReels for product videos

Canva's reel maker is part of a full design suite: you edit clips and photos into a video, use AI to assemble one, or place designs on mockups (Smartmockups is now Canva Mockups). SuperReels does one thing Canva does not: it generates a new vertical video of your own product, worn, held or used, from a single photo.

Your first mockup video is free. No card needed.

Choose Canva if

  • You design everything in one place, from social posts to presentations, and want video editing alongside it.
  • You have your own footage and want it cut into a reel, or you need static mockups for free.
  • You need landscape video, avatars speaking a script, a huge stock library or team collaboration.

Choose SuperReels if

  • You do not have footage of your product and want a finished video made from a photo.
  • You want your product worn by a model, applied, poured or used on camera, not a design placed on a stock photo.
  • You want a tested template to do the prompting instead of writing prompts yourself.

Food video ads from one photo of your dish or drink: three macro making shots, the finished plate on a set you choose, and a branded end card.

Editing footage or generating it

Canva's reel tools work best when you already have something to work with: clips from your phone, photos, brand assets. Magic Video assembles them into a vertical video, and the editor lets you cut, caption and add music. Its prompt-based AI clips are short and landscape.

SuperReels starts where you have no footage at all. One product photo becomes a scene with a model, a set and a moving camera. If you do have footage, Canva is a good place to edit it; if you only have the photo, generate the video here and add text in Canva afterwards if you like.

Smartmockups users

Smartmockups now redirects to Canva Mockups, which places your design or photo onto ready-made product shots. For still images that is hard to beat on price. For a mockup that moves, with your product on a model or in use, use a SuperReels template.

How it works

  1. 1Pick a templateEach one is written for one kind of video and tested on real product photos before it goes live.
  2. 2Add your photo and a few detailsUpload a photo of your product from your phone and answer a few questions in plain words. There is no prompt to write.
  3. 3Post itA vertical 9:16 video arrives in a few minutes with no watermark, ready for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Facebook.

Questions

Is SuperReels a replacement for Canva?

No. Canva is a design suite; SuperReels makes product mockup videos. Many people use both: generate the video here, then add text or combine it with other assets in Canva.

What happened to Smartmockups?

Smartmockups was acquired by Canva and smartmockups.com now redirects to Canva Mockups.

Can Canva make a video of my product from one photo?

Canva's prompt clips accept a reference image and make up to 8 seconds in 16:9, and Magic Video assembles your own clips or photos. SuperReels templates generate a full vertical product scene from your photo.

How much does Canva Pro cost?
